Beware of a Travel Package.
Too many times you may read about a great travel package deal from a travel
agency or tour operator. While there are many reputable companies providing
tour packages, there are also many scams looking to take your money. While
there are never any guarantees, the best way to protect yourself is to find
out the following information:
· Do you know anyone who has conducted business
with the company?
· How long has the company been in business?
· Call the Better Business Bureau about any complaints.
· If the package offers a cruise or other travel components –
call the cruise line or any of the travel components to see if they are aware
of the tour operator. If the package fails to identify the specific airline
or cruise line, beware.
· Is the company licensed? Did you call the state or county to make
sure the license is valid?
· Do your homework before sending your deposit.
Remember, if the price seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Protect Your Valuables in a Hotel
Thousands of consumers report stolen or missing personal items from their
hotel room each year. Most hotels offer a safe in each room or at the front
desk. If you have any valuables in your luggage, you need to protect them.
If your hotel does not offer a safe, consider keeping a do not disturb sign
on your door. Do not assume your valuables are safe in your hotel room.
